Learning in the past, looking to the future: JMAR lifetime achievement paper fall 2022 I completed my doctorate from The George Washington University and then went back home to Taiwan to teach at National Chengchi University in January 1990. I felt i did not know how to do management accounting research at that time. I was fortunate enough to meet Chee Chow in May of that year in Taipei. He began to teach me how to do rigorous management accounting research, including finding interesting and relevant topics, forming a theoretical foundation to study them, selecting research methods, etc. Under Chees guidance, I chose "national culture and management accounting" as my area of focus. He also invited many outstanding professors to visit Taiwan and share with me their knowledge and research methods. I can never thank Chee enough; he is my lifetime mentor who helped me understand the need to "not only work hard, but work smart in order to become a good researcher." Halaman: 1
